Yes to all of this! PR folks miss the mark when they fail to realize that writers are just people! Building relationships takes time but it works. No one wants to read an irrelevant, impersonal, 900-word pitch from a stranger. And no, never wrong to rant about the cesspool that HARO became.
I love Substack and read many newsletters posted. Being a solo PR practitioner though, the subscription requirements and paywalls can add up. Agencies can afford to buy the add ons like Zooms and classes. I absolutely can appreciate that writers deserve to increase their monthly income. But I now have to be more choosy with whom I pay for and who is most aligned with my interests as I can’t pay for all the monthly newsletters. I’m simply going to miss opportunities.
Hi. I totally get it. Want to let you know that all of my opps are free as are Aly Walanskys. The rest of the newsletter is paywalled. However, I try to have at least 3 post free posts per month.
I fully agree with this and I LOVE when I find out an editor/writer has a Substack - 9 times out of 10 I'm an automatic subscribe! It's a great way to connect and get to know the contact, but also get their perspective on the PR/journo relationship. Substack FTW! Looking forward to the AMA deets! Have a great day Amanda!

Love your transparency and collaborative approach here, Lauren. Thanks for taking the time - looking forward to subscribing!
And P.S. - shitting on Cision is always okay ;)
Thank you! And LOL

Definitely don’t use Connectively… I don’t think it lasted very long lol. Either Substack or SOS (started by the original creator of HARO)
I think SOS is great and I probably should have discussed it more. The problem is that at least currently there are not tons of opp there.
Yes totally agree!
